How to Stop Biting your Nails

So i have been a nail biter for as long as i can remember. I hated how my nails looked and i couldn't stand it anymore. I know this is a habit many people have and is a hard thing to overcome. I haven't bitten my nails for about half a year now and i decided to share with you some tips on how i stopped biting my nails and what helped me.

Tip 1: Take a Photo

This might sound weird, but take a photo of your nails before you start. Keep it and look at it daily. I found this helped motivate me. It worked as a reminder of what you are aiming to do and it also works as a before pic. It allows you to look back and see your progress.

Tip 2: Take it one at a time.

Trying to stop biting all your nails at once is very hard. instead try to give up biting one nail at a time. I found this very effective because when you see how nice one nail looks it motivates you to keep going.

Start by choosing a finger like your pinky or ring finger and then each week or every few days give up another one, then another until eventually all.

Tip 3: Stop That! Nail Polish

This should probably be tip 1 as it is was really stopped me. I used the Manicare 'Stop That!' nail polish. It tastes disgusting (and i mean completely horrible). i would apply this to be nails everyday and it really helped. the slightest contact with your mouth and you can taste the foul taste. There are many other things like this on the market like sprays.

Tip 4: Nail Inspo

Tumblr, pinterest, instagram. That' all you need. it doesn't take long to find pictures of beautiful nails with wonderful nail designs on them. Keeping a few images help motivate you. You can create a vision board with 100 images, or just 1 single picture as your phones wallpaper.

Tip 5: Cover Up

Another tip is to cover up your nails. Either with Band-Aids, gloves or even nail polish. I don't know how helpful this tip is or how easy it is to implement. I was not able to paint my nails at the start due to school rules, but in the school holidays when i was able to paint my nails, i found this very helpful as you don't want to ruin your nail polish after all the time and effort put in. if you are willing to even paying for a professional manicure could help as nobody wants to waste their money buy chewing off the professional polish.

These are the things i used to help stop me biting my nails, and i hope they help you. Once you start the process and see changes they really do stick with you. Don't get disheartened if you don't succeed at first. Just remember to stay motivated and you be so happy with the end results.

xoxo Liz.
